BIOLOGICAL SAFETY ADVISORY PRACTICE
Infection Control & HIQA Hygiene standards Study Day
The aim of this one-day programme is to extend and enhance the knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control for registered nurses.
The programme content is individualised to meet the needs of the nursing staff attending the study day varying from the nursing home environment to the practice nurse setting or to the acute hospital setting.
Topics covered by lectures on the prevention of cross infection include:
- Hand Hygiene
- Standard & transmission based infection control precautions and HIQA hygiene standards
- MRSA
- TB
- Scabies & body lice
- Clostridium difficile
- SRSV (Winter vomiting disease)
- Blood borne viruses
- Inoculation injury management
- Waste Management
Training Faculty: Biological Safety Advisory Practice
Training venue: Specific Hospital / Care Center Site /Hired facilities
Number of participants: 10/24 per programme
Entry Requirements: Participants must be currently registered with An Bord Altranais.
Programme Personnel: The programme administration is under the nursing guidance of Siobhan Prout, MSc Environmental Health Risk Management, Dip.Infection Control, and Dip. Management & Industrial Relations, RGN, CMIOSH
Teaching Methods: Lectures, Discussions, Demonstrations, Application to practice
Programme Evaluation: Participants will be invited to give verbal feedback and fill in a programme evaluation form on content, length, relevance, presentation.
Certification: On completion of the programme B.S.A.P. will present a Certificate of attendance, which has been granted Category 1, An Bord Altranais approval.
Programme Costs: The price of the programme is dependent on numbers participating and geographical location if training is held outside Dublin Area.
